Seú is the harvest festival on Curacao. As it always takes place on Easter Monday, the date changes every year.

People parade through the streets of Willemstad dressed in colorful costumes and dancing to traditional music. They celebrate the harvest, each other and their connection with Mother Nature. There is a parade led by a Séu Queen, a singing contest and a headscarf contest.

    Nena Sanchez (1945 – 2017) is a famous local Curacao artist who was crowned Miss Curacao in 1966.

    Her colorful paintings are known beyond the island’s borders. Famous motifs include her goddesses, Kunuku houses and the fauna of Curacao. Nena’s murals decorate numerous house walls in Punda, Willemstad.

    There is a gallery of her works in the picturesque Jan Kok mansion, which you can visit every day except Sunday from 10 am to 5 pm.

    Where is the Museo Tula located?

    On the way to the beaches of Grote Knip and Kleine Knip you will pass Landhuis Knip. The country house is now the Museo Tula. It is located on the hillside above the two Kenepa (Papiamentu Kenepa = Knip) beaches, very close to the road to/from Westpunt. A visit to the museum, which is also a visit to an old country house, can easily be combined with a day at the beaches in the west of Curacao.

    There you will find evidence of the slave era. A slave named Tula was the leader of the largest slave uprising on the island. In 1795 he started the rebellion of the slaves of Curacao from the manor house of the former Kenepa plantation.
