One of our favorite restaurants on the island is Eetcafe De Buurvrouw (= eatery ‘The Neighbor’). The restaurant itself is an oversized palapa, under which there is an incredibly beautiful atmosphere. We die for the fantastic skewers with Antillan rice. An absolute recommendation!

    Sopi Kadushi or Dushi Kadushi (soup).

    In addition to stews with different types of meat, Dushi Kadushi soup is very popular on the island, especially with Zus.

    Kadushi is a cactus native to Curacao. There are cacti that are inedible and also the Kadushi cactus, whose “meat” is used to make a traditional soup. In addition to the cactus pulp, the green soup contains vegetables, fish and other ingredients, depending on how it is prepared.

    Fuik means fishing net. Fuik Day is a festival on the water in the Fuikbaai.

    Fuikbaai is a bay in the shape of an elongated fishing net. Everything that floats on the water is sailed into it. Fuik Day is a big happening with lots of music, food and drink.

    What started with a few boats from friends is now a well-known event that takes place annually on the first Sunday of the year.
