In the Caribbean (and many other parts of the world), your shopping costs either the price you have to pay as a tourist (“tourist price”) or the price paid by the locals (“local price“). It is also clear that the locals do not normally earn as much money as you do as a tourist. So they usually get a much lower price that is adjusted to their income.

Who or what is Hato?Answer
Hato is the name of Curacao International Airport (CUR), the only international airport on Curacao.
There are also the Hato Caves or Grottoes of Hato. These are a network of limestone caves. They are located opposite Hato airport.
Perhaps you could take a look at them on your departure day? The planes to Amsterdam don’t usually take off until the evening anyway. From the cave entrance you have an excellent view of the airport, the taxiway and the runway. Worth seeing!
