  • Quiz Question

What kind of cactus is that on the Relaxed Curacao logo?

    Answer

Perhaps you have already read our article about columnar cacti. Then you know that the cactus on our logo is a Kadushi cactus.

Recognizable feature: The cactus branches out from a single stem. This cactus is also edible and can be found in the local dish Dushi Kadushi soup.

We chose the Dushi Kadushi for our logo because columnar cacti characterize the typical landscape of Curacao. The dry climate offers optimal growing conditions. Cacti often stand on top of hills, behind them only the blue sky, the yellow sun and the turquoise blue sea. Our logo was created from this image of the island of Curacao that we still had in our heads at home.

  • Quiz Question

What is this black and colorful sculpture that I keep coming across on Curacao?

    Answer

    This sculpture is a Chichi.

It represents the sensual and shapely ideal of female beauty that is prevalent on the island. The Chichis are individually painted by local artists. Each figurine is unique and therefore a one-of-a-kind, wonderful souvenir. There is a Chichi store in Willemstad, where you can watch them being painted live.

If you would like to paint your own personal Chichi, you can do so at Serena’s Art Factory on a Tuesday or Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm. Have fun!

The Chichi figure created by Serena Israel in 2008 can also be admired under water. The diving attraction is located at a depth of approx. 10m.
