Geographically, the islands belong to the Leeward Islands. Geologically, they belong to South America, as they lie on the South American continental shelf. Curacao and Venezuela are only 60 kilometers apart.
Strictly speaking, there is also Klein Curacao and Klein Bonaire. These two secondary islands of the main island of the same name are uninhabited.
