What is this black and colorful sculpture that I keep coming across on Curacao?

This sculpture is a Chichi.

It represents the sensual and shapely ideal of female beauty that is prevalent on the island. The Chichis are individually painted by local artists. Each figurine is unique and therefore a one-of-a-kind, wonderful souvenir. There is a Chichi store in Willemstad, where you can watch them being painted live.

If you would like to paint your own personal Chichi, you can do so at Serena’s Art Factory on a Tuesday or Saturday morning from 9am to 12pm. Have fun!

The Chichi figure created by Serena Israel in 2008 can also be admired under water. The diving attraction is located at a depth of approx. 10m.

    The Koningin Emmabrug, Pontjesbrug or Queen Emma Bridge is a floating pontoon bridge made of wood and steel that is over 100 years old. It connects the two districts of Punda and Otrobanda.

    It is just under 10 meters wide and 167 meters long and can be completely moved to the Otrobanda shore side for ships to pass.
