The indigenous people of Curacao were the Arawak, also known as the Taino. They lived on the islands before the Caribs arrived from South America.

At the Hotel Kura Hulanda Lodge & Beach Club, in the far west of the island, you can find out some information about the Arawak. The hotel lobby houses historical exhibits from the time before colonization.

    A diving spot in the west of the island is called Alice in Wonderland.
    The further you descend here, the smaller you feel among the ever-growing coral formations. This is why the underwater world there bears this name.

    There’s more to discover underwater in the diving area around Westpunt, including a statue of Neptune, a Chichi, and a saxophone. The reefs, fish, and corals are so diverse that it’s like entering another world.
