Why am I always in Otrobanda?

Otrobanda is just another name for the other side.
It depends on which side of the bay you’re on, but Otrobanda is always the other side of St. Annabaai. The strait separates the districts of Punda and Otrobanda in Willemstad.

Pablo joked:

“If you’re in Punda, Otrobanda is on the other side. But if you’re in Otrobanda, Punda is Otrobanda.”

However, Otrobanda or Otrabanda (both spellings are correct!) is shown on the city map as the district of Willemstad opposite Punda.

    In Papiamentu, the “de” becomes “di” and the “c” is replaced by a “k”.

    Bolo di manteca is a butter cake – the basic recipe is a pound cake made with wheat flour.
    Bolos are moist and yummy and keep for several days in the fridge. They are available in all supermarkets in many different varieties – we have eaten them plain, in 3 colors, as marble cake and also with chocolate chips.

    You can’t go wrong with that choice for your children.
    A clear recommendation for sweet tooths!

    Every time there is a big incoming wave, a fountain shoots up meters high in front of you. The reason for this is an underground hole in the rocks through which seawater is forced.
