The beach near Santa Martha, known locally as “Playa Lagun,” will be temporarily closed to the public due to construction work related to the building of the new TUI Blue Curacao Hotel.
According to the hotel management, the measure is necessary to prevent safety risks to potential visitors during the ongoing construction work on the site.
The closure comes just before Easter, a time when many residents traditionally head to the island’s beaches to camp and spend the long weekend there. From April 3 to 6, Santa Martha Bay is among the most popular destinations for locals.
Construction and renovation work is currently underway on the grounds and in the surrounding area to prepare for the hotel’s opening (scheduled for July 2026). Construction materials, tools, and heavy equipment are located in several areas near the hotel and the adjacent public beach, making the area unsafe for visitors.
To prevent accidents, it was decided to temporarily close the beach to the public. TUI Blue stated that the closure is purely a safety measure.
The beach is expected to reopen to the public during the summer vacation of 2026. By then, improvements and modernizations to the beach area are also expected to have been completed.
The hotel management has asked the public for their understanding and noted that the construction work is intended to create a safer and more attractive beach area for locals and visitors in the future.
Note: This is not the “Playa Lagun” beach, which is located in the small fishing village of Lagun! This concerns the access road to the public beach at Santa Martha Bay, which is reached from the town of Soto. The new all-inclusive TUI Resort (Robinson Club) named TUI BLUE Curacao is being built there. The opening is scheduled for summer 2026.
