Blue View Sunset Terrace
Authentic Caribbean dining with sunset

Only at Blue View in Westpunt you can sit on glass floors, enjoy the thrilling view down to the sea, beach, and rocks, and enjoy one of the fantastic sunsets over the Caribbean Sea while indulging in delicious food. It’s the stuff dreams and Hollywood movies are made of – Insta-alert! But what else does Blue View has to offer? We tried it out:
Location, location, location
Prime location! When you drive along the main road from the fishing village of Lagun to the westernmost point of Curacao, the first things you’ll see at the entrance to Westpunt are the Cactus Cafe and the Rancho el Sobrino Resort. Leave both of them on your left, literally, and continue until you reach Playa Forti. Above this public beach, which can be reached via a staircase, is the Blue View Sunset Terrace. There is plenty of free parking available.

A touch of nostalgia
Curacao is also exciting because you can always experience relics and emotions from a time long past. And so, upon entering the Blue View, you are greeted by a blue vintage car, which is just standing there in the entrance. You go inside, find typical Caribbean paintings on the walls, and shortly afterwards are confronted with your personal present: the unique view of the Caribbean Sea from a small rock – in the middle of Westpunt. It leaves an unforgettable impression!

Once again, location, location, location!
Now it’s no longer about the restaurant’s unique location, but about your unique location in the restaurant! You quickly realize that the best seats are right at the front, with a direct view of the sea – as in any restaurant. Here, however, there is the added thrill of sitting on glass floors when you have the best seats. Estimated at around 15-20 meters on the cliffs and above the sea. Thrilling and inviting at the same time. Would you like that? We did!

The perfect sunset
No one can guarantee you that. But when the weather is at its best, this is the place to be, where you can experience the sun setting right in front of you. Is that what you expect from your Caribbean vacation? Then you’ve come to the right place: on the glass floors at the very front of Blue View.

A warm welcome
Have you already been warmly welcomed and found your favorite spot? Then it won’t be long before the waiter comes over and hands you the menu. That’s how it was for us! We ordered our drinks quickly and studied the menu. Ribs, stobas, or just a salad? The menu offers something for every taste. We opted for the spare ribs and a stoba.

Ribs Challenge and Iguana
Without anyone at Blue View knowing, I had ordered ribs for our “Ribs Challenge Curacao”. You can read about the results of our first ribs tasting here. We compared ribs across the island relentlessly and anonymously. Reading about it will surely make your mouth water and you’ll be well prepared for your culinary stay in Curacao.

Ribs with fries, corn and a small salat
Maike opted for a popular Curacao specialty that she loves: a Stoba. Stobas [link] are stews, similar to goulash, which are available at Blue View in the variants “Karni” (beef), “Kabritu” (goat), “Iguana” and “Papaya” (papaya and pork). Iguana?
Yes, that’s right: here you can try the “tree chicken” that is widespread in Curacao. You can find everything you need to know about this fascinating animal in our article “Iguana – Green Iguana named Yuana”. Maike chose the Kabritu version, which is also widespread in Curacao and very tasty.
So, how did it taste?
Let’s start with the stooba: it was truly “heerlijk lekker”! It was braised for a long time, which is what matters (along with the quality of the ingredients used). Especially with goat, it is important to get the right quality so that the result doesn’t smell like goat. At Blue View, everything was perfect: no unpleasant smell, the meat was tender and could be cut with a fork. That’s how a Stoba should be! The side dishes were Funchi, a type of polenta, and a small salad. If you want to try authentic Curacao cuisine, a stoba is the perfect choice!

Stoba Kabritu with Funchi fries, a delicious local dish
The ribs were also great! There was a decent rack with about 12-13 baby ribs with fries, some salad, and a corn on the cob. The marinade wasn’t overly smoky or overly sweet. Were they the best ribs on the island? I don’t want to spoil the surprise here, so I’ll ask you again to check out our “Curacao Rib Challenge”. Just this much: when it comes to food, you can’t go wrong at Blue View, where you’ll find delicious and authentic Curacao cuisine.
View and vacation feeling
The best side dish at Blue View? It’s the magnificent view of the turquoise sea and the great atmosphere. Take a look at our photos: you can’t get more Caribbean and vacation feeling than this! That’s the advantage of the west side of Curacao: here, the sun sets into the water every day, and with a little luck, it will be your perfect sunset. You’ll remember it for years to come.
With a little luck, you might even see cliff divers jumping into the water on the other side of the small bay. There is so much to see and so many impressions to take away with you!

If you’re lucky you can watch cliff jumpers at the cliff on the other side of the bay
The service was super friendly, Caribbean cheerful, and we felt welcome and well looked after every second. Thank you, Bianca and the whole team at Blue View! We’ll be back to try the rest of the menu, we promise!
Conclusion
We experienced Blue View in Westpunt one evening. It’s certainly just as impressive during the day. If you’re in the west of the island after a day of swimming at one of the legendary beaches such as Grote Knip or Playa Grandi/Piskado, be sure to stop here and end the day in an unforgettable way.
If you’re traveling in the west of Curacao, Blue View should be on your list, whether for a sunset dinner or just an afternoon drink after a day at the beach.
