Shopping in Curacao

Curacao is such a great travel destination because you can easily look after yourself on the island. There are numerous international and regional shopping opportunities.

The culinary offerings leave nothing to be desired. If you are not a vegetarian, you can find the best beef from nearby Argentina in large supermarkets and prepare it fresh yourself in your holiday location, which often has a grill. As a vegetarian, however, you can choose from numerous exotic fruits and vegetables. You won’t find them in this variety and freshness in Europe. The whole thing becomes a shopping highlight when you buy fruit and vegetables at the floating or round market in Punda.

Nevertheless (like here in Europe) it makes a difference where you shop. You can go shopping at top prices in the perfectly lit premium store (e.g. Carrefour). Or you can go to the supermarkets that are frequented by the locals (e.g. Esperamus). Here you can usually get everything a little cheaper. Perhaps it is presented a little less attractively there, although in this respect the Esperamus has improved significantly after a renovation. However, the quality is sometimes even better (keyword: rolls for breakfast) than in the international stores. This is certainly a matter of taste – just try it out!

In addition to the classic supermarkets, shopping also includes strolling and shopping in a mall like Sambil or a local department store with the apt name “La Curacao”. If your luggage did not arrive with you on Curacao, then these are the first addresses the morning after. We’ll take you there too.

What we hope won’t happen for you, but can happen, is the search for a pharmacy. Maybe your first aid kit is missing exactly what you thought you wouldn’t need. That’s not a problem on Curacao, because the Boticas, as the local pharmacies are called, are well stocked. In addition, you do not necessarily need a prescription from your doctor for all medications.
